RIM Announces the New BlackBerry Bold 9700

Research In Motion (RIM) finally announced to release the sleek and powerful BlackBerry® BoldTM 9700 cell phone (code name Onyx), an update to the popular BlackBerry cell phone Bold 9000, which released last year on AT&T. The new BlackBerry cell phone Bold 9700 offers an extensive array of high-end communications and multimedia features in a compact and highly refined design.
“The BlackBerry Bold 9700 builds on the success of the original BlackBerry Bold with new, state-of-the-art features and a smaller, lighter and highly optimized design,” Mike Lazaridis, Research In Motion’s co-CEO, said in a statement.
The BlackBerry cell phone Bold 9700 has the same 624 MHz processor as the 9000, so the Bold 9700 will be as speedy as the Bold 9000. One of the differentiates from predecessor is that the BlackBerry cell phone Bold 9700 replaces the trackball with an optical track pad which continuing a trend started by the Curve 8520.
The BlackBerry cell phone Bold 9700 offers top-of-the-line performance with functionality and key features include:
- Sharp 2.44″ light-sensing display (480 x 360 resolution at 245 ppi)
- Weight 122 grams (incl. battery), 90 grams (excl. battery)
- Built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) with support for Wi-Fi calling via UMA where available
- 3.2 MP camera with variable zoom, auto focus, flash and video recording
- Highly tactile full-QWERTY keyboard - with finely sculpted keys and chrome frets
- BlackBerry® OS 5.0, offering users email management and calendar enhancements
- 256 MB of Flash memory
- Micro SD/SDHD memory card slot that supports up to 16 GB cards; a 2GB card is included
- Available in two versions to support various 3G network frequency combination: UMTS/HSDPA 2100/1900/850/800 MHz, quad band EDGE/GPRS/GSM and UMTS/HSDPA 2100/1700/900 MHz, quad band EDGE/GPRS/GSM.
- 1500 mAhr battery that provides approximately 6 hours of talk time and 17 days of standby time in 3G mode
- Bluetooth 2.1 with support for Secure Simple Pairing
- Support for BlackBerry® Internet Service and BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
- Media player for videos, pictures and music (music play now extended up to 38 hours)
The business-oriented BlackBerry cell phone Bold 9700 is expected to be available in the U.S. in November on AT&T from $199.99, after a $100 rebate and with a service contract, and from T-Mobile which pricing has not yet been announced.
