LED Televisions & Display Units – The Future of TV?
Reviewed by Bram P
Samsung have recently announced that they have sold over half a million of its PAVV TV display units within the first one hundred days of launch.
Samsung as the world’s biggest TV manufacturer obviously believes the future of television sets is in using LED (light emitting diode) technology. The remarkable sales figures published by Samsung amount to more than double the volume of units sold in the whole of 2008, a clear sign that demand for LED TV display units is a growing trend.
Despite the economic climate demand for premium TV’s are increasing. Some people believe that as the financial gloom continues a lot of people will continue to invest in domestic or home leisure products such as LED TV‘s instead at of other whimsical purchases such as going to the pub. With many of us expecting the digital switchover shortly there is and will continue to be a huge volume of LED TV buying made of those whose old TV’s wont function on the new format.
As well as LED TV‘s there has been an increase in demand for LCD advertising screens for multimedia display advertising as used a lot in hospitals, doctor’s surgeries, post offices etc. Steven Senior from Luminati, a specialist display unit manufacturer explains “There is definitely a growth in the interest in multimedia advertising incorporating LCD and LED TV technology in particular and more generally an increase in other alternative point of sale display units such as dump bins and brochure holders. Retailers and marketers are always looking for increasingly flexible and clever advertising solutions especially given the tough times most industries are facing.”
Advantages of LED or LCD TV’s and display units (to be precise the units displays are in LCD but backlit by LED) include the ability to produce very bright images and deep blacks and they can be exceptionally slim, hence their use as an advertising medium. They are also much more efficient than normal display units and they can produce a much wide colour gamut.
